Welcome to the Webpages of our Clinic for Vascular Surgery!

After many years of development, the Department of Vascular Surgery and Angiology finally became one of the few clinics in the German Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia to be certified as a vascular centre by the German Society for Vascular Surgery and Angiology on 27th July 2009.

The Department of Vascular Surgery has also been fully licensed as a further training centre by the North Rhine Medical Association since 15th February 2010.

Recent demographic developments have caused the number of older people in the population to grow, while increasing life expectancy is contributing to a rise in vascular diseases. It was therefore necessary to establish an independent clinic for vascular surgery in order to meet the resulting requirement for specific diagnostics and treatment for vascular diseases.

The full range of diagnostics for arterial, venous and lymphatic diseases is conducted on an outpatient basis during a special vascular consultation. More minor operations such as varicose vein surgery and shunt implants, etc. are performed as outpatient surgery. Arterial interventions such as those in the abdominal, pelvic, leg and carotid arteries and complicated vascular operations require inpatient treatment.

Twenty beds in the interdisciplinary vascular ward and in the private ward are available for inpatient treatment. Following the operation, the patients are cared for in a recovery room or in the intensive care ward following major surgery.

The vascular surgery outpatient department offers consultations by appointment on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons between 12pm and 4pm. Cutting-edge technological equipment such as colour Duplex sonography, extracranial and peripheral Doppler ultrasonography, LRR (light reflection rheography), etc. is used for angiological and phlebological diagnosis. These devices can be used to investigate disorders of the neck vessels, abdominal arteries, pelvic vessels, arm and leg arteries and the veins without causing stress for the patient. The diagnostic spectrum is rounded off by close collaboration with a private angiologist.

A full range of radiological procedures is available for further vascular diagnostics in the Radiology Department at St.-Antonius-Hospital.

Emergency treatment and emergency admissions are performed all year round at any time of the day or night. Our own vascular surgery on-call service enables us to ensure that quality service is maintained around the clock.
