Pneumology

Chronic Respiratory Diseases Are Becoming Increasingly Common

Respiratory diseases are gaining in significance, with approximately 10 to 15% of adults suffering from asthma or chronic bronchitis. In the Pneumology Department, our specialists in respiratory tract and lung diseases use modern diagnostic and therapeutic methods to treat a wide variety of problems including:

  • Bronchial asthma
  • Chronic bronchitis / chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Pulmonary fibroses
  • Pneumonia
  • Pulmonary tuberculosis
  • Pulmonary hypertension (pulmonary arterial hypertension)
  • Lung and chest tumours

We also attach great importance to maintaining interdisciplinary dialogue with other specialist fields such as surgery, radiology, nuclear medicine and oncology within the hospital (see also > Tumour Conference).

Patients benefit from the use of modern lung function diagnostics in order to optimise their drug therapy.

An example of this is body plethysmography. Videobronchoscopy is available for endoscopy of the respiratory tract. Ergospirometry is a method that is also used in sports medicine and allows objective assessment of physical performance. Overall testing of the function of heart, circulation and muscles, as well as the lungs and oxygen transport, can be conducted with this method.

What Do We Offer?

  • Lung function analysis
  • Whole body plethysmography
  • Blood gas analysis
  • Diffusion capacity measurement
  • Non-specific inhalation provocation testing
  • Ergospirometry
  • Bronchoscopy using flexible and rigid examination techniques
  • Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL)
  • Biopsies
  • Tumour excision
