The Nephrology Outpatient Department provides outpatient diagnosis and treatment for specific problems. Patients with persistent severely restricted renal function are prepared for renal replacement therapy or kidney transplant in this department and the specific treatment is agreed with the patient. The department also carries out vascular access procedures (dialysis shunt, dialysis catheter) in collaboration with the Department of Vascular Surgery and works in close cooperation with local dialysis centres and the transplant centre at Aachen University Clinic.

Our diagnostic and therapeutic services:

• Assessment, prevention and treatment of all primary and secondary kidney diseases (e.g. as a result of immunological diseases, vasculitis or collagenoses)
• Diagnosis and treatment of primary and secondary hypertension
• Preparation for renal replacement therapy (haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and kidney transplant)
• Caring for transplant patients and preparing them for their transplants in close cooperation with the transplant centre at Aachen UC
