The Interdisciplinary Intensive Care Ward is jointly run by the Clinic for Internal Medicine and the Anaesthesia Clinic and has 19 beds. It is used for the treatment of  patients from all specialist clinics with all types of clinical pictures involving conservative, cardiologic and surgical intensive care.

Particular emphasis is placed on the treatment of sepsis according to the guidelines of the "Surviving Sepsis Campaign", cardiogenic shock and early enteral nutrition in line with the Fast Track concept.

Quality is continually monitored based on the intensive care ward surveillance protocol (ITS-KISS).

• Invasive circulation monitoring (PICCO)
• Invasive and non-invasive artificial respiration
• Puncture tracheostomies
• Continuous renal replacement therapy (CVVH)
• Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP)
• Hypothermia treatment of patients following cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• Early enteral nutrition and mobilisation (Fast Track concept)
• Regional and systemic analgesic treatment, ‘on-demand’ pain pumps
• Isolation beds
